The Qualitative End of User Research
The benefits of understanding your audience better are very hard to quantify. People forget that they didn't know this before you're what your user do something and then have learned oh that's what the user's behavior is or there's a problem that user has. The truth of quantitative research is often easier to convince people or easier to demonstrate through things like A.E.B. testing. But yeah you do need a degree of buying and research maturity from an organization before they can see the benefits of understanding their users better through a study.
