The good is at once the root of all desire, reason and being. When we hear good, we hear it as just having to do with ethics. With beautiful and the beautiful, we think of just aesthetics and art. We have these three autonomous kinds of normativity: true, the good and the beautiful. And when you're making normative judgments about the true or the good or the beautiful, you're not using fundamentally different parts of your brain,. So there's a sense in which underneath them all is one, the way in which the true, thegood and the beautiful all interpenetrate each other.
