How Bible Translation Creates the Vocabulary for Faith

The Chinese Bible has shaped the way in which Chinese Christians think and talk about their faith to such a degree that sometimes they don't realize the linguistic disconnect with the world around them. The Chinese word for sin as well as in Japanese and Korean is a character for crime. So when Chinese Christians share with those outside the faith that the Bible says we are sinners, it sounds to people outside the fold like they are being accused of serious crimes. But I try to show in this book that actually the Chinese Bible does a pretty good job of contextualizing sin using various sin metaphors. And even though it represents a kind of contextualization, if we follow the lead of the Bible and Bible translation itself,
