The research shows that these parents often are fearful in their parenting. And so the infant, as they look up to this bigger, wiser other, they see the fear in the parent or they feel it. The reverse is true for kids who end up developing preoccupied attachment. It develops from a sense of my body can't quite relax because I can feel that the caretaker around me taking care of me has a sense of unsettleness.
