The Role of Early Intervention in Critical Illness
The pilot trial was designed to compare a lower intermediate and a higher oxygen target. The second major trial design choice we made going into the pilot trial was to focus on early intervention. We know from observational research that patients exposure to hyperoxemia and XSFI2 is the greatest in the minutes to hours after the triculantibation and initiation of the mechanical ventilation.
