Muscle damage is one of the more important considerations to try to prevent in order to maximize ultra running performance. So what are some of the training components that runners should be taking on during their day to day, month to month training? It's pretty simple, actually, and everyone does that, but you really need to emphasize that this is very, very important. This is why I proposed many years ago a shock weekend. By shocking, I mean running downhill and doing thousands and thousands of meters of down here running. If you do that, you will be efficient from what we call the riptic bout effect.
