The Not Special Special Divide
At the age of 26, I had a deep, intuitive sense that it was time to get some help. So I shaved my head and gave away all of my belongings and moved to a silent Buddhist Zen monastery or a train for the next seven and a half years in silence. The first thing that happens when you move to a silent monastery is you notice, oh my God, I've created all of these ways I can assure to be seen as special. And so there's the duality. There's the not special special divide right there. But let's acknowledge that it's certainly what the world of individualism and capitalism ... perpetuates"
