The software engineering community began to transition from procedural languages to object oriented languages in the 1980s. This had lots of benefits like code reuse, so they could actually encapsulate data and play with other parts of the system without having to worry about this sort of spider rope effect. Still today, most programmers will bring your designs to life using object-oriented languages.
