The Importance of Fasting
If you fast and then eat relatively normally, what you're doing is letting your body take the calories that you would have had from its body fat. This whole idea that if you have body fat, you're still going to lose muscle comes from a lot of studies where they do these fat scans. If you have no fat, yes, you will burn muscle. It's just the way it's being measured. And interestingly enough, that study where they did a 10 day fast and found that huge loss of muscle was all water.
