You always have to decide what is important and what is not important from a physiological standpoint when you're coaching an athlete. It's no different than giving up any sort of other athletic component to achieve the goals of the sport. Just because you don't work one particular intensity for eight weeks or 12 weeks doesn't mean that it's gone. Your body does your body really doesn't know systems right so sure adapts in one area versus the other.
