The Importance of Setting Your Own Rules
"Coaching is made up like most other things in this world," she says. "So instead of trying to white knuckle your way through a particular set of rules that don't feel good or aligned to who you are, then question those rules and see if you really do in fact have to follow them." The ICF has its own guidelines for coaching people but they're not the end all be all golden scroll of thou shall do X, Y, and Z while in a session with a client. But yet I've noticed myself get caught up in these rules because I want the gold star and the checkbox and the little letters after my name.
