The Importance of Typography in Magazine Covers
Kirk-Rito: "There's an overwhelming amount of text to illustrate that we have a ton of material inside the magazine" The key word here is typography. It's hard to replicate designs from the 60s because the audience is not from the 60's, Kirk-Rito says. Esquire stands out from all the other magazines on the rack but doesn't stand out in the same way Lowe's covers did in the 60's.
