The patient was created using a lentiviral vector which contains HIV gene sequences, including LTR and GAD. Two of the most commonly used assays for HIV actually use LTR or GAG or both as their target sequences. The goal of this is to deplete the T and B and NK cells and create a favorable environment for expansion and persistence of the T cells and vivo. And there has been good success in terms of safety.
