The study found that by saying the emotion again, it just kind of perpetuates it as opposed to lessen it or dampen it. They also said in the study that naming the emotions got in the way of what they call mindful acceptance. But if you're someone where you know that when you are able to pinpoint your emotion and label it and express it to someone that does make you feel better, then maybe that's the way to go.
