There are also organizations that are almost designed to come and go. A lot of technology companies themselves are like that, aren't they? Well, they try to create that kind of culture in a way. When these things are more fluid or negotiable or less defined, you might be more okay with that. But when a firm scales up, you have more division of labor that defines the knowledge you have, the status you enjoy, the salary you're getting. Perhaps the disruptive impact of a technology inside the firm is bigger and leading to more resistance of the people that won't benefit.
