To compete at the highest level, you have to know how everyone else is approaching the format and thinking about it or you will be crushed by the better players. If all you're doing is doing something that's like in some sense statistically correct, your payoff is usually not as impressive because other people can also do statistics. So even if you're a little better than them, like your edge is often quite small so unless you can just do a ton of transactions on that basis and you're never wrong, it's often very tricky.
