The Importance of Price Controls in Inflation
For much of the last three decades, both policymakers and investors have focused more on deflation. During periods of inflation there is often a desire for price controls to control prices. But in Roman times they didn't work because Emperor Diocletian was debasing currency. High inflation suits Italy as it means that its government debt is now in a more sustainable path than it would otherwise have been.
