Artificial scarcity quickly leads to inefficient use of resources because it encourages people to buy things they may not need or can't afford. That's a massive long-term problem for any community. Burning your reputations for a quick transactional gain? That's never a good idea when you're part of a community that thinks in decades that plays the long game.
