The Importance of Sleep Hygiene

Sleep hygiene defines these kinds of behaviors that influence sleep. These include alcohol use, caffeine usage, exercise during the day and not using nicotine in the hour or so before bed. It's important to stress that sleep hygiene on its own is probably not an adequate treatment for chronic insomnia. For people with chronic insomnia, a treatment called cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is recommended as first line.
