In his treatise, ibn Adi says that asceticism is best, but not for everyone. Only those with a particularly powerful intellect should turn their backs on moderation and devote themselves wholly to the life of the mind,. Misko'e emphasizes that reason should dominate the lower soul. He also would agree with Ibn Adi that we can envision more than one ethical standard to pursue.
