Strength Training Is More Important as We Age

strength training becomes more important as we age, not less. I would rather lift hard two to three times a week than do it every single day. But regardless of how you do it, just do it. Stack the habit on to your running. You can get away with two days a week or ten minutes a day. If you really hate strength training, make it a part of your cool down. Just that's what works for me.
