The Set Point Is a Convincing Metaphor
To what extent can somebody just kind of wheel themselves to be more extroverted or on the happiness scale? There's this Dan Gilbert's idea of the set point. You're either a cheery person or you're not. And I think there's no doubt that genes affect our experience. They may affect a lot of our experience in the happiness world. The challenge also becomes for people who are unhappy and miserable and suffered for a long time when you hear that it's my fault.
