What the Prisoners See Are Shadows
All that the prisoners can see are the shadows. So their concept of the world in which they live is determined by and constituted by what those shadows are. When they see a shadow of a hippopotamus, that's what hippopotamus is for them. And they live a complete life,. restricted by their shadow, by these to these shadows. The change is a change in understanding how things are best for them. But it's a change not only in the objects of what the prisoner, released prisoner sees, but in the perspective of the released prisoner.
