The Benefits of Functional Training

A functional training is that it helps you withstand the disruptive forces that occur in sport. I don't know of a more balance intensive exercise than a press, a locked out standing press. You did live 600 for a set of five and you didn't fall down. That is a very long kinetic chain from your hands all the way down to the floor. Then you were in balance and balance was getting trained.
