Nietzsche's Concept of Pleasure
The most expansive sense of the term pleasure that we could come up with would probably end up being roughly analogous to Nietzsche's later concept of power or will to power. He says every action that we take is a necessary outflow of our own nature, that our impulse is push us to demand an attempt to gain our own form of pleasure in the world. If some obstacle stands in the way of our desires, it's a necessary eventuality that we'll lash out an attempt to destroy that obstacle. And so it's always a matter of self-defense.
