The Importance of Suppression in Academic Environments
In IFS, we have three kinds of parts in general. We have what's called firefighters that leap into action and do all the destructive things in our lives once a strong emotion is triggered. We have exiles, which are the ones that hold the strong emotions that we don't want triggered at any point. And then the third part we have are the managers who proactively try to avoid any triggering. My manager parts are so strong, they suppress everything in myself, in my body. Like my whole body is locked down, it's clenched like I've had frozen shoulders because of how much suppression I have to do. So I do this suppression pretty much everywhere. Faculty meetings, just
