When or Bit Shifting?
In the early days of software development, it was possible to write code that would not be compiled. This is called bit shifting - instead of multiplying a number, you shift it so yo, shifting in your left is equivalent of multiplying it by two. The compiler knows this trick too and can tell when shifts or ads are better than multiply instruction. In one of his talks about thet ware, i talk about this particular thing....
