Juneteenth is a celebration of the emancipation of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. It took until federal troops could actually get there to free the enslaved people who were there. Juneteenth has always been celebrated in Texas, but the rest of the country and has figured this out now and became legal holiday in 2021.
