The Vikings and the British Isles
The first major raid that put the rest of Northern Europe on notice was the destruction of the Northumbian monastery at Lindisfarne in 793. A Viking named Rurik headed east into the deepest regions of the Baltic Sea, where he would traverse the waterways of northwest Russia.
