Steve Madden created a range of 100 different shoes but he only made one of each. He put them in a store in a hot market which was going to be representative of the whole market and then found out what those winners were. When he had those winners, he produced a ton of them and sold a lot. That is basically how Steve Madden went from selling shoes out of the trunk of his car to having a business worth hundreds of millions.

How do you know whether your ideas will fail or be successful? You can think about it for a month, a year or even an entire lifetime but thinking alone will do you ZERO good. At some point, you need to put your ideas out into the real world and see whether they will succeed or fail.
