Food industry not necessarily wanting Jonathan to have depression and disease however they want you to come back and get more of their stuff. There's evidence that they are meeting in rooms to discuss how to make it more palatable but i don't think it's necessarily to create the problems. If it's more shelf stable tastier it's great for profits what nobody wants to create products that go bad after a couple days  that don't keep you coming back for them. It's like a conundrum yeah.
