The Second Spanish Republic

Primo was unable to reconcile his desire to fix problems with how fundamentally broken Spanish society and the economy were. Primo tried to introduce taxes to pay for this program, but business leaders resisted. The erosion of support from both sides would eventually force Primo to resign in January 1931. After Primo's departure, there were two other prime ministers, both military officers, and both would serve for only short periods of time.
