There is a tendency in the technology industry to deprecate the past very quickly. Why should you care about things like Betamax or Sony Walkman? I think there are lots of interesting ideas that were left by the wayside. There's no guarantee that just the best technology does not always win. The further out you look, the less predictable things are.
