The Importance of Reciprocity in Filipino Culture

The Chinese versus the Filipino version of this reciprocation to kind of shadow and contrast what might be going on there. I learned a lot about Filipino culture in particular because patronage works a certain way in Filipino culture with all of their different histories of colonialism, having been occupied by empires three times over. So these ideas have a resonance which I can only approach as a cultural outsider. But social scientists studying the Philippines have made their work available so that outsiders like me and like you can see what reciprocity feels like.
