Matching the Cardiovascular System to the Periphery

As you age, your maximum heart rate goes down by about one bit per year. So if you cardiac maximum cardiac output determines your VO2 max in a large part. You can't really affect that. But it sounds like your periphery, your muscles, kind of adapt and keep going as long as possible. That's likely very important for patients too,. If their heart's not functioning as well, can they do exercise to extract more out of what the muscles being given? Exactly.
