What's a Good Number at Rest?
The SMO2 is the percentage of hemoglobin and myoglobin that's carrying oxygen in the capillaries and tissue of the muscle. So at rest, you might be 40%, you might be 80%, anywhere in between. Most typically, the SMO2 will go down quickly because you start using oxygen immediately when you start doing work. Then your heart rate comes up, your cardiac output comes up, and your blood vessels will start to vasodilate. That responds fairly quickly but the vasodilation can take longer.
