Public radio, historically in the us. Has been an up scale product. Some people in public radio still think that they are the only source of smart, intellectual audio programming because they haven't gotten the memo about podcasts yet. The fact that no announcer on w n y c sounds like tony soprano or what er this has long been seen as an indication of how distant it is from the working classes. It's a tricky thing, because there is an advantage to having people on the radio or the t v or the pod, whatever, who speak in the dominant dialect. And that's a good thing. That's useful.
