Why the Law Judges People
Law was introduced as a corrective to problems with gossip. Key thing that happens with gossip is that, you know, somebody does or says something, and then rumors about it spread. And so the law is fixing this problem with gossip. But of course, another way to fix a problem with gossip is just to tell people not to gossip. Which, of course, many societies have tried to disapprove of certain kinds of gossip, and not very successfully.
