The Importance of Partamenti
Even in Debussy's time, the word partamenti was being used in the conservatory. Some pieces by Debussy, I think, that are orchestrated, are orchestrated by Caple. The idea that one of the two top harmony teachers at the Paris Conservatory would be copying out an entire book of Maté Partimendi in the 1850s is kind of remarkable.
