The most important thing to do first and right out of the gate, is to try and find something that can load the muscles that they also enjoy. Not everybody enjoys the barbell movements so especially for beginners, you want to get them on the machines. It's almost like the CrossFit women entering powerlifting meets many, many years ago when they started enjoying the feel of a heavy single rep deadlift as opposed to going out there and gutting themselves on all these high endurance exercises.
