John Hersey was an award-winning war correspondent for The New Yorker. He faked a stomach illness to sneak out and talk to survivors of the Hiroshima bombing. His 40,000 word exposé revealed that over 100,000 people had died from radiation sickness. It sent shockwaves because it showed previous stories about Hiroshima weren't telling the whole story.
