The Effects of Chronic Stress on the Prefrontal Cortex
Stress can make you more at risk for depression. The very parts of prefrontal cortex that normally regulate emotion are the ones where we see atrophy. So what's happening then is these structures in our brain that drive depression are no longer being suppressed. We should have a low threshold for going to a doctor to get help with it.
