The Arabic term Allah, it used to mean God, but in the setting that we're now in, people want to know whether Allah is God. So if we can grasp the linguistic subtleties of that statement, then a lot of the controversy falls away. But when people don't realize that what seemed to be theological questions are grounded in different linguistic assumptions, that's when we fall into all sorts of misunderstandings.
