CHAPTER

The Importance of Meditation in Therapy

Winnicott understood that even the youngest of children, even down to infancy, that there's emotional life happening in young children. Their brains are not developed enough to understand what's going on emotionally inside of them. If they're left alone too long, that becomes a crisis. But if the parent is there to pick them up and respond and talk to them, murmur to them, sing to them, and in a slight way make fun of them, you know, like, oh, poor you, you're, you must be hungry. The child learns that emotional experience is actually tolerable.
