Evolutionarily Conserved Mechanisms of Aging

It's the same hallmarks of aging we think that largely drive the biology of aging in people and dogs and cats. The rate at which this network decays is driving the rate of biological aging. Organisms that have better repair capacity are going to age more slowly, be able to handle the breakdown of the system and last longer. But it's unlikely that natural selection has specifically said, okay, we're going to evolve along lifespan in this species.
