The Debt Limit and Fiscal Policy in 2025

The debt limit is expected to be raised by the end of June. It's likely that a grand bargain between Democrats and Republicans could potentially increase substantially non-defense spending in exchange for permanent extension of Trump tax cuts. If that's the case, we're looking at significantly higher deficits and debt over the next several years and decades. The debt limit will come into effect in early 2025, but extraordinary measures and cash on hand will push back the drop that day.
