The 20 Virtues of Pudagra
In the late 1600s, early 1700s, a Bavarian publisher and engraver wrote out a list of 20 virtues of pudagra. In terms of treatment, while some doctors promised a cure or symptom relief through this or that treatment, most said that gout could not be cured. Gilbert Sheldon, who was Archbishop of Canterbury under Charles II in the 1600s, supposedly offered a one thousand pound reward to any person who could quote, help him to the gout to cure the distemper in his head.
