And this was silencing opposition figures. When he began making plans for a third term as president, Chiang met with a bit of opposition. Then there were many inside and outside the KMT who grumbled a little and expressed some concern about this. There was also no small amount of pushback from the people and from other political leaders and the optics of that whole going for the third term are not good at all.
