A study on mental processes explains a lot of why you see people respond the way they do in politics. There's actually an evolutionary reason for that. If you stereotype, you don't have to think about it very hard in the future. You conserve energy. So we are programmed to say I want to avoid that. But that's when you do your best thinking. That's when you doing your best growing.
