Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging. Working with shame, guilt, humiliation, embarrassment around self is a major area of passion for me as a clinician. Our stories around self are powerfully dictated by how we learnt to belong. For example, who did you have to be in order to be enough? And then what parts of me did I have to disconnect from to belong? This is an unconscious process which all humans go through at different severities.
